Frequently Asked Questions

No, we do not accept insurance and are considered out-of-network providers. This means we do not bill insurance companies directly, but we can provide a receipt (called a superbill) for sessions you’ve paid for. You may submit this superbill to your insurance provider to determine if you qualify for out-of-network reimbursement.

We recommend contacting your insurance company before starting therapy to ask if you have “out of network” mental health benefits and what percent they reimburse. People are often surprised to learn that they have out-of-network coverage and typically receive reimbursement for 50-85% of session fees.

Regardless of insurance coverage, clients are responsible for full payment at the time of service.

Insurance companies often impose restrictions on session length, frequency, and treatment approaches, which can limit the effectiveness of therapy. By remaining out-of-network, we can offer personalized, confidential care without the need to provide mental health diagnoses or treatment details to insurance companies. This approach allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and a truly client-centered experience, ensuring that therapy is guided by your needs rather than insurance policies.

Fees range from $175-$240

We accept credit cards for payment or an HSA/ FSA card, if it is a credit card. Session fees are due at the time of session. If we are not a a good match for you financially, or for any reason, we would be happy to provide you with high-quality referrals from our network of experienced  colleagues.

Not at all! While some people seek therapy during a crisis, it’s not a requirement. Our “Modern” approach to therapy is focused on the idea that therapy is for everyone. We believe it should be a regular part of your wellness and self-care routine, not just something to turn to in times of  crisis.

Whether you’re navigating life’s challenges, seeking clarity, or pursuing personal development, we provide a compassionate space where you are truly heard and understood.

Holistic therapy encourages a balance of the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of each unique person. We help you find balance and alignment across all aspects of your life, guiding you toward a sense of wholeness and happiness.

Yes! It’s completely normal to feel ambivalent about starting therapy. On one hand, you may have a deep desire for healing and growth, but on the other, you might worry that therapy will bring up emotions or truths that feel overwhelming. Some may even feel there’s something wrong with them for seeking help, or that therapy is only for people with “serious” issues.

If there’s a part of you that’s curious about therapy, trust that impulse. That curiosity comes from a place within you that wants to heal and grow. It’s normal to feel nervous or unsure at the beginning of a new journey, and those feelings are part of the process we’ll explore together. Therapy can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially when it brings about change, but rest assured, you won’t be alone. You’ll have a compassionate guide supporting you every step of the way.

In therapy, you’ll work with a trained professional to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe, confidential environment. Each session is an opportunity to talk about what’s on your mind, whether it’s specific challenges you’re facing, recurring patterns, or areas where you’d like to grow.

Therapy is a collaborative process. Your therapist will listen without judgment, ask insightful questions, and offer guidance to help you gain clarity and develop coping strategies. Depending on your goals and needs, your therapist might introduce different therapeutic techniques or approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, or other tools designed to support your healing and growth.

Ultimately, therapy is a space for self-exploration and empowerment, where you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and work toward lasting positive change. Each session helps you move closer to feeling more balanced, resilient, and aligned with your values and goals.

Starting therapy at Hillary Counseling is easy! Begin by scheduling a 15-minute consultation with one of our therapists. During this brief call, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss why you’re seeking therapy, your goals, and any current challenges. It’s also a chance for you to get to know your therapist and for them to understand your unique needs.

If you feel comfortable and believe the therapist is a good fit, you can schedule your first full session. This 50-minute session will focus on getting to know you better — your background,  history, relationships, family dynamics, and significant life events — to gain insight into what has shaped who you are today.

After you’ve shared your history, your sessions will focus on the goals you and your therapist discussed at the start. These goals will guide the direction of your therapy, helping you move toward growth and healing. Whether you’re looking to address past trauma, improve relationships, or enhance self-understanding, the work will center around what’s most important to you.

Therapy at Hillary Counseling is a collaborative process. While your therapist provides guidance and support, you always control the pace and direction of your healing journey. Throughout the process, you’ll receive empathy, respect, and care.
